I use this scale to calibrate or check my torque wrenches. I place the wrench in a baseless vise, measure 12 inches from the wrench's center of rotation, mark the handle, and then use a scale to measure the weight in pounds required for the wrench to click. For a longer or shorter key whose handle is more or less than 12 inches from the center of rotation, simply use the desired inch spacing, then multiply by the force required to make the key click and divide him by twelve. For example, if you are testing a torque wrench set to click at 30 ft-lbs and you pull the handle 15 inches from the center of rotation and it took 25 pounds for the wrench to click, then the torque you apply is equal to ( 15 x 25)/12 = 31.25 ftlbs. Your wrench is not accurate and needs to be calibrated. If your key cannot be calibrated, you can easily check its accuracy. I always calibrate or test a torque wrench in the middle of its range. That's where it's most accurate.
