Review on 🚘 Enhanced Safety: MAXXHAUL 70429 Trailer Hitch Cover with 12 LEDs Brake Light by Brandon Boones

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice bright LEDs for hitch accessories

I bought this to try and disable the auto start/stop on my 2017 F150. Not as much. Ready to give up on Ford because of it. The light uses ground and left and right turn signal brake lights. This differs from what has been shown and described in previous reviews. It has a control board with diodes, resistors and another device that has a wire cut off. During dyno testing I found that it comes on and stays on when both RL brake lights are on from a source of about 13.7V independent of the turn signal. I also noticed that it has a voltage drop or maybe a voltage regulator. At 9V-12.8V, it lights up when both RL brake lights are on, and then flashes when either turn signal is on. The housing is made of plastic. The pinhole is offset quite a bit on both my 2016 Odyssey and my F150. Errors will occur due to the way the F150 computer recognizes the trailer connection. The light works but the alarm will sound every time the brake is held for 10 seconds or more and then report the trailer is disconnected. When released, it will ring again and say the trailer is connected. The programmers at Ford have done a great job with this function. Also, the backup sensor will be disabled, making this feature useless. It works great on Odyssey; Except for the pin connection. It extends beyond the end of the receiver, away from the foam pad, and rattles. Can be modified by drilling a small hole closer with a smaller pin, but care must be taken with the wiring. You can run extra cable into the device to minimize cable snarling. I don't know if I can get it to work with my F150, probably not. I can make it work for Odie. All in all, you know what you're getting.
