Bought this item about a year ago. I tried to make a waffle but it didn't stick very well. I finally cleaned everything up and decided to try other reviewers' suggestions like using waffle spray before pouring the waffle mix and adding butter to the waffle mix, but it still didn't work. I have never used a waffle iron again. The waffles were so stuck it was impossible to clean them. I threw it away. Why did I give five stars? Call me crazy but I bought another one. I thought I'd try again. It worked. Didn't stick at all. I Here's the trick you need to do when you first get this waffle maker. As another reviewer said, I used a Pam spray before pouring the waffle batter and also added vegetable oil to the waffle mix. On my first purchase I used Pam and added oil to the waffle mix but the waffles were sticky. The second time I bought it I did everything the same (with Pam and oil in the mix) BUT I did something different. I set the waffle scale between 4 and 5. After pouring the waffle mix, I waited for the green light to come on. Note: you will get a green light when the waffle maker is ready to pour the mixture and when you do and close the lid it will turn red and after a while green again). Anyway, I poured my mixture and waited for the green light to come on. Don't check if the waffle is done. If the green light is on, DO NOT OPEN THE WAFER Maker. Let it cook a little more (I waited quite a while thinking it would burn). Then open it. You end up with a fried (really crispy cooked waffle that doesn't look appetizing). The bottom line is that the first waffle should never be eaten. Firstly, because it helps get rid of that new smell of a freshly heated waffle iron. Second, because you've been making waffles for so long. But that's the key. Cooking that long for the first time is like searing a waffle iron. If you open it too soon, the waffle will come loose and stick. So don't forget to make your first waffle a disposable waffle. For the second waffle, keep using Pam and add oil to the mixture. I set the dial between 3 and 4 and opened the waffle maker when the green light came on. It came out beautifully. For my third waffle (on a different day) I added oil to the mix and didn't even bother to use Pam. It didn't stick at all and turned out perfect. For those wondering what waffle mix I used, I figured it would make a difference whether it was sticky or not. I used Krustez pancake mix. Even if Krustez says just add water. Be sure to add oil. I used a lot of oil the first three times because I was still afraid it would stick. Now I use oil. I hope someone will help. As I said, the first one I bought got stuck every time and I had to throw it away. The second works great and I think that's because the first waffle was my disposable waffle and I made sure it was thoroughly cooked. I can finally eat waffles again. If you found this review helpful, please comment and let me know. Many Thanks. UPDATE: AFTER READING THE COMMENT ON MY PREVIOUS REVIEW, YOU FEEL FEW COMMENTS ABOUT THE FIRST WAFFLE. I REMOVED THE WAFERMAKER FROM THE BOX AND ONLY SELECTED THE FIRST TIME WAFER ON THE FIRST TIME USE. ANY OTHER WAFER AFTER THE ONE YOU EAT. IF YOU USE IT THE NEXT DAY, YOU DON'T HAVE TO THROW THE FIRST WAFFLE. THEY EAT THEM ALL. FOR THOSE WHO LOVE WAFER. DURING THE LIFETIME OF THIS WAFER BRAND ONLY ONE WAFER WAS SACRIFICED AND ALL THE OTHERS EATEN. :)
