Several reviews mention its inability to stay shut or snap safely. Initially I had the same problem. However, there is a note on the inside of the cover that says it must be turned clockwise to reset the latch. I tried it - it worked great! I've also noticed that if I just turn the crank one or two more times AFTER the rabbit appears, I don't have to do the reset step. It will reset automatically by simply spinning it one more time or two and not stopping once the rabbit appears. This is an adorable "toy" and I think my granddaughter will love it; In fact, I think I want one for myself now!
