Great idea. I like that the gate for orthopedic mattresses is nice and high. However, the gaur splint wobbles despite 3 different types of attachment to the bed. Not sure at all. I bought this to breastfeed my baby in bed in the middle of the night without worrying about him falling asleep and rolling out of bed, but those wobbly gates were actually a hazard as there was between the mattress and this thing could get stuck. . I will have to return it. I really wanted it to work, but the only way to stabilize it is to buy all the other sides and actually turn our bed into a giant crib. My husband didn't want to put up with this inconvenience (and let me tell you that even with the gate closed, getting out of bed with the gate open is very uncomfortable, so he's right about the inconvenience). Generally difficult to assemble, inconvenient to use on adult beds, unsafe or stable if you only have one side, and not fit for purpose for which it was designed. Not recommended unless you intend to use all 4 sides.
