good and less good

Overall I like this pack and will continue to use it, but it has its pros and cons. I like being able to carry everything on my back instead of lugging it around. It's great when I'm on uneven ground or dealing with steps, even when standing in long lines is tiring. i like the size This is just for me I would say I'm not exactly a minimalist packer. I bring the basics and a few nice things, but nothing more. I use packing cubes and my own compression straps (both inside and out) to keep everything clutter-free and organized. I've never had a problem with it as hand luggage. However, I always tuck the seat belts in before I get to security and then either leave them tucked in or put them back in before the agents are at the gate. So it looks more like a sports bag than a travel backpack. There are no problems with placing it in the trunk. On smaller planes, I detach the smaller bag and put the two backpacks separately (when I'm on board so it doesn't look like I have too many bags). The backpack clearly lacks order. The main backpack is a large space that narrows with room for straps. It opens fully so you can see everything at a glance. The top flap has a large zippered mesh pocket. I put in zip pockets with smaller pieces of clothing. The detachable backpack consists of a main compartment, a large zippered mesh top compartment and a padded laptop sleeve. On the outside it has two mesh pockets and a small zipped pocket at the top that would be great for your phone or ID if not for pickpockets. A smaller backpack could be a great carry-on if it were more organized. For short trips, when I'm not packing a lot, I just toss my purse in so I don't have to lug it around, and then take it on a flight. My biggest issue with the detachable backpack is the shape of the shoulder straps. They approach your neck before curving outward. It gives your shoulders a good range of motion, which would be nice for rock climbing or other more technical hiking skills, but wearing it around town on holiday is annoying and leaves chafing on the sides of my neck. It's even worse if the husband is carrying a backpack (it's plain black and doesn't look like a man's or a woman's backpack). Sewing soft fabric belts is on my to-do list. Others have mentioned that the hip belt is small. I have 35 inch hips and with the light layers of clothing I usually travel in they are more like 37 inches. Not tiny, but not big either. Although I have the large (small/medium) version of this pack for the upper body length, the waistbelt has about 2 inches more slack on each side. If I have to wear a winter coat, it takes up the extra 2 inches of slack.
