I avoided buying diapers before my baby was born because I didn't know if she would hold her hands up or down. Well, she was a hands-up baby and these diapers were very helpful for the first few weeks. She could still rub her hands together, but her startle reflex was significantly weakened. I also appreciated the zipper as opposed to the velcro because it's less likely to wake her up if I put it on after she's asleep. The only downside to the zip is that the size range is much more limited so it outgrew that one pretty quickly. Luckily she doesn't need diapers anymore.
