The only conclusion: you need to clean carefully and not immerse in water. It has a rubber pad on the bottom to keep it from slipping and scratching as it is cast iron. I'm sure it'll come off sooner or later, but better later. I figured a small strip of silicone baking sheet on the stovetop would solve the problem.
