Update: Been using it for about a month. Today it stopped charging my MacBook Pro. A lightning bolt appears in the loading icon, but the % value decreases. Turning on and off the dock that wasn't connected to the Pro didn't work. Power on/off when connected. It's very strange that it randomly stops loading. I'm having some issues with the micro SD card reader and I suspect with the advanced features of the monitor. Micro SD card reader: You need to insert the micro SD card into the case. , in the docking station with a fingernail to engage the spring mechanism. As soon as this happens, the front of the SD card is pushed out of the housing by half a millimeter and fixed. To remove the micro SD card, you have to push the card back into the housing very carefully with your fingernail, release the lock, and the card sticks out about two millimeters from the housing. Your nail will be scratched by the AL body every time. Then you have to lift the case and try to extract the micro SD card. It fails. The micro SD card reader works. Not sure if this is Mac OS X or a docking station. These problems started after I started using the dock. Which makes me think it's a docking station issue: extended monitor. One of my programs crashes every time I try to move it from my Pro's screen to my extended monitor. Another program, scaling goes wrong. It's fine on a pro screen, but when I move it to an extended monitor, the program's frame is fine, but things in the frame get horribly enlarged. When trying to zoom out and pan, it just becomes erratic and shifts after zooming or panning. Overall I still like this docking station but I can definitely say for the price. I would keep shopping. Which is pretty sad. I really think it has the best combination of features and layout I've ever seen. The overall ease of use was perfect for what I needed. However, I have to use a micro SD card adapter because I don't have to keep scratching my fingernail. respectable. It has all the features I want and need. I'm not sure if it's worth $300 for several reasons. But then again, it does what I need. I'm glad I cut a few adapters and cables cluttering up all the USB ports in a device separate from my Pro. I really like that it's far enough away from my MacBook so I can use the space around my Pro. This is important as I take notes and do other work with my Pro. The docking station helped keep my Pro cool. I used a USB to HDMI adapter for an external monitor. For some reason, the graphics card had to do extra work, resulting in the MacBook running up to 108F at ambient temperatures. With Thunderbolt 3 for this dock, and then with the mini display, temperatures dropped to normal. So far, everything worked on a plug-and-play basis. I can hear it 5 feet away in an open space with other noises in the room. Obviously the switching power supply is poorly designed. I threw a towel over it, which muted the sound, but there's no room for power supplies under the towels. On the front, the ports are offset from the body openings. That just makes it cheap. It has a green and blue LED on the lower front panel. I'm not sure what they do. Face down so I can only see it through the off-centre vents, which are also recessed a bit into the case, and the light shines out. The black top does not fit into the metal case. It just looks cheap. So I think all the Ferrari parts are here and they seem to work as a whole. But it also feels like a DIY KIT CAR someone assembles for the first time in their garage.
