Review on Bellroy Passport and Boarding Pass Organizer by Karen Turner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I want to love this wallet so much but I'm not sure I can.

I really want to love this wallet. I've been traveling a lot lately and plan to do even more this year (coronavirus permitting). So I decided to splurge on this wallet. It seemed to have a lot of what I was looking for. The fact that it had 2 passports was a huge plus as I travel a lot with my young son and being able to carry his passport along with mine is a plus. So when the wallet arrived today (a day earlier than expected - hooray, Revane!) I was ecstatic. I couldn't wait to see it. Well after trying it I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Pros: looks good. There is no doubt that this is a quality travel wallet. Although I was unfamiliar with this brand before, I would like to say that it is on par with other high quality travel accessories from brands like Tumi. I LOVE zip wallets. Not only wallets that close at the top, but also those that close on 3 of the 4 sides. It makes me feel like the content is safe and just looks clean. I wish more brands made full zip wallets. This was a big selling point for me and this wallet does not disappoint in that regard. For international travelers there is a slot for an additional SIM card. I don't need it so I reassigned it to hold a spare house key. *Note: I already know how silly it is to carry a spare key in the same place as my ID with my address, but this key has saved me from locksmith costs more times than I can count. I also have a home alarm that I use regularly for this very reason. Now for the cons: You can only fit two passports if both are only 28 pages long. My 52-page passport barely fits in. My son's 28-page passport fits in much better. However, they don't both fit, but I think they would if they were both 28 years old. I would like to understand that, because for me that was the main selling point. The size is weird. I'm assuming it's a UK or European size, that's understandable, but it's odd putting your money in such a large account range. While it's not ideal, I think I'll lay it vertically in this area instead of laying the money horizontally like a folded bill. Why only three card slots?! I carry more than three cards with me in my daily life, so I take a lot more with me when I travel. Where the card slots go there is easily room for 2-3 more slots which would make this way more functional for me. There's a slot that can hold 5 more cards (for a total of 8, they say it would fit) but how weird is that? I don't like flipping through my cards, I want to see them. This is total crap. No American boarding pass fits in and allows you to circumnavigate the entire perimeter. Again, this may be a European thing, but what boarding passes go with it? I kind of thought this might be the case when I saw the pictures before buying, so it's not a big deal, but it's kind of a shame I can't use it for that. - On the back of the bag there is a pocket that fits the passport. I was hoping this could serve as another place for the credit or insurance cards that I can't fit elsewhere, but you can't as the pocket is too deep. Good luck catching random cards from there. I thought it might double as a pocket for a second passport, but it doesn't fit either (too tight). I tried putting my money in it as as mentioned above I was planning to store my money vertically in the wallet but the pocket is not deep enough to close the wallet. Grrr. In general I am concerned about this wallet and whether I will keep it or not. I feel like it has potential (or workarounds), but I'm not sure I can live with its shortcomings, especially at this price point. I was even hoping to use it as an everyday wallet (without a passport) because it's so beautiful. But I just don't know if I can ignore the cons.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
