I bought this at the end of December 2020. I placed this on the right side of the patio door - about 2.5 feet off the ground. I chose these because the supports are under the perch itself so if she jumps onto the perch or plays with it while sitting on the perch, she won't bump into it and possibly dislodge the whole thing. this is NOT a shorty weighing 12.5 pounds) wasn't sure at first. She's so suspicious of new things that I had to kind of "accompany" her by jumping on her and picking her up on top of her the first few times. At first she jumped on the sides to avoid hitting the glass, but now she confidently jumps straight onto it perpendicular to the glass deck! ER - she gained at least 4 pounds. since I first got it and it's still strong and sturdy. (I think she's even doubled her weight since I got her - Mom loves to give her treats.) She was trained to jump in there so my parents (and I) put a collar on her to help her let out the door. (Mom and Dad can't bend down safely at their age and Mom can't pick them up.) Now she jumps in and meows, signaling her desire to walk out the door, so I guess we're trained now! But she also jumps in just to look at the backyard or sunbathe. Very strong and reliable. I've only taken the seat off the glass once to clean it, and that was in the spring. The suction cups did not come loose on their own. Metal support inserts "sticks" remain in excellent condition. The only time they fell out was when I pushed or pulled them a few times to fully close the curtain. When I did that it lay flat on the glass until I reinserted the support rods. Until now, they had never come out when Gracie jumped on him from any angle. I live on the border of hardiness zones 4 and 5, if you're interested in temperature differences. And I live in Iowa, so the pace changes A LOT. I plan to put another one up on the center pane of glass on my patio door at a higher elevation so she can jump from the first to this one and put some of her jungle energy to work! Or make a glass-enclosed porch for her. This is a cheaper alternative to the wooden cat shelves I see in My Cat From Hell. Hope this information helps you!
