Review on HP ENVY Touchscreen Processor Nightfall by Mark Erandio

Ryzen hexadecimal processor and NVMe SSD eliminate common bottlenecks

I bought this for my mom to replace a 10 year old Asus laptop she was using. Had a 16GB model been available here at the time I would have picked it, it does photo/video editing but I think it can be upgraded fairly easily. It's not really a downside to this model in general as I'm pretty sure 16GB versions are available. Overall this laptop is great. It's slim, the touchscreen is responsive, and it folds easily. The fingerprint scanner seems reliable and unlocks the system quickly. The camera is not bad for a notebook in this price range. The keyboard was easier to type on than expected considering it has a 10 key on the side. The speakers are above average for the form factor, but I wouldn't listen to music for long periods of time. Battery life seemed good in the small amount I tested. As for the cons, it comes with some things installed that you might not need, like McAfee Privacy and Antivirus. Didn't have to spend too much time removing viruses, but not much. I'm not a big fan of the USB port on the left. It sort of "folds up" like many laptop Ethernet ports you see on thinner designs. The screen is only 1080p, but let's face it, it's not exactly a disadvantage at this price point or for those who don't use higher resolutions due to vision issues. Otherwise there is not much to change. I wish I had another USB port, but after using this for a day setting up I'd be happy to have one for myself. If you plan on using it as a tablet, you might want to reconsider. At over 4 pounds it's still too strong to carry around for such a task. As the title suggests, overall performance is excellent. An NVMe drive is a nice upgrade even over a regular SSD, and 6 cores, which can be bumped up to 4GHz for better single-threaded performance, is good for a small laptop in this price range. If you're a moderate to moderate user who just needs to surf the web, email, Excel, YouTube and maybe do some light photo editing, this 8GB RAM model is ideal for you.
