Review on ๐ŸŽฎ EPOMAKER Niz x87 35g Electro-Capacitive Keyboard: Ultimate Gaming Keyboard for Laptop PC Gamers in 2021 by Patrick Burns

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Camp experience is ok. Modified, it's overwhelming.

I already have a Realforce 55g keyboard but I only bought this because it could be upgraded. Here are some thoughts on the out of the box experience. First, the caps are actually pretty decent. I don't like the whitespace branding so I replaced it with another whitespace I had on hand. In terms of build quality and "reliability" this is a good keyboard overall. I think $155 is a bit high considering it's the same price or higher than brands like Ducky or Leopold. However, if you want a comparable Realforce, they'll get it done at a small discount (around $50). disappointing. 35g is very light and I knew I was going to get in. But I was expecting a little more tactility. Weighing in at 35g, the keys felt almost linear to me. However, I haven't seen this feeling repeated anywhere else, so maybe I'm just weird. I like my keys on the heavier side. The 55g weight on my Realforce is ideal in my opinion, but others may find it uncomfortable. Now I've mentioned the potential of modding. There are silicone domes that can significantly change the feel of the keys. I bought a dome pack called "BKE" and opted for the "lightweight" version which is actually in the 50-60g range. Installing new rubber keycaps on this keyboard is a real project. I can elaborate on it if anyone wants, but needless to say you allocate a couple of hours. Part of the reason is that the aftermarket domes I bought need to line up perfectly with the sliders. And even after an hour of tedious dome alignment, many buttons don't work. Luckily, Niz offers a handy calibration tool. I ran it and now all my keys work. Installing BKE Domes created a difference between day and night. The keys now feel very comfortable. Very strong. They just feel fantastic. The sense of touch is actually better than with my Realforce. Now I use Niz as my daily driver and really enjoy tapping on it. However, this experience comes at a price. Aftermarket Niz domes are $60 plus shipping. Throw in the price of a keyboard and you're pretty much in Realforce territory (or even higher). Was it worth it? I think so. I can replace these caps with any Cherry compatible set. The tactility is the best I've ever experienced. Is it better than Realforce in literally every way? nope The Realforce still looks a little better in terms of build quality. Niz feels a bit more scratchy due to the sliders (please fix in next version!). But for the time and money spent on this keyboard plus mod I feel like it was worth it. Just be careful when unpacking - 35g is very light and don't expect a lot of tactile sensations. But that's just my opinion.
