I'm new to spade lugs and speaker wire so I seem to have overlooked the fact that you can't just use pliers to crimp connections like other crimp connections that already exist insulation at the plug. So I had to learn to carefully bend the tabs one by one. I ended up doing this and then soldering the connectors to my speaker wire. Another issue I have is that the insulation sleeves are too small for the size of speaker wire I'm using (advertised as 14 gauge but most likely 12 gauge), forcing me to carefully trim the insulation from the side to to be able to attach them to the wire. TLDR: Buy a dedicated crimping tool and make sure you're not using oversized speaker wire.
