It doesn't even look like a mattress pad. It's not crunchy or slippery. Instead it is quilted and very soft. It looks and feels really chic and comfortable; although it's not smooth and I'm not considering a mattress topper and wasn't expecting that for the price. The underside is made of smooth material, but you never hear or feel it. It also lies well on the mattress without wrinkling the fabric that can make these covers slippery. It is also resistant to stains. All my linens are white, so I clean often and change the linens at least every other day, but I never have to put anything extra in the wash because it always looks fresh and white. I originally intended to cover it with my old mattress pad, but I'm so glad I didn't. It holds up well and looks good on a bare bed while I wash the sheets. Not only does it look good, but it also protects the mattress, so the mattress itself looks nice and in good condition. I tested with a glass of water. It didn't get wet and dried completely within a few hours. However, spills near edges can spread to unprotected sides.
