Serious battery design flaw causing premature failure

Update. My device was bought a few years ago and it is a PG6020 model and since then a new device has been added to the list. It was a 1.2v 600mah nickel cadmium battery powered unit (battery shown). Subsequent buyers informed me that some upgrades have been made to the current version of PG6025, including the introduction of a higher voltage 3.2V lithium battery and a different circuit board. However, I haven't seen any photos to support this. So if anyone has taken it apart I would encourage them to post some photos. However, many reviews still mention poor battery life. Although the lithium battery should be more resilient, I remain skeptical that the battery charging problems have been completely solved. Now if it's a 3.2V battery, replacing it with even a cheap AA battery is no longer an option. My homemade battery replacement is holding up very well, it only takes an hour to charge, and the increased battery capacity of 2800 mAh is noticeable. So if you decide to buy it, just charge it only when you need it. Original Review: Don't listen to the many reviews posted within a month of shipping! This product fits fairly well and is fairly inexpensive, but it has a major design flaw in the battery. My trimmer died after a few months of use and since it was pretty handy I decided to open it up and see if I could fix it before sending it to the landfill. It's not too difficult to cut the case with a thin blade such as a blade. B. an office knife to open. The two halves separate to reveal the interior. When I opened up the trimmer I found that it was powered by a simple rechargeable AA battery. The good news is that this battery only solders to a few wires. So if you are good at soldering, you can simply replace the battery in this device with a standard rechargeable AA battery and your device will work again. The bad news is that there isn't very advanced circuitry to regulate charging and prevent the battery from being overcharged. I'm not an electrical engineer so I could be wrong, but when I look at the circuit board it all seems very simple and I don't see anything that would regulate charging or prevent the battery from being overcharged. It looks like the circuitry was taken from a plug or disposable battery pack, so the charging circuitry wasn't built in. The battery will likely burn out fairly quickly, which is why most long-term tests complain of poor durability. I've added some photos of the open device with the battery removed for replacement. If you're handy enough and your trimmer is dead, it's worth opening it up and replacing the battery. I'm skeptical how long a spare battery will last without the proper circuitry, but time will tell. At least the standard battery is a very small 600mah capacity and I should be able to replace the battery with a much higher capacity battery like the Revain Basics 2800mah AA rechargeable battery which offers longer run time , and I hope that does not burn out. as fast. While this device is cheap, if you're concerned about durability I would recommend considering another trimmer that has a cheaper battery system. If you need to buy this device or have already bought it, unplug the trimmer after charging it and do not leave it plugged in all the time. If it dies, the battery can be replaced. Leave a comment below if you have any questions about opening the device or would like more photos of the inside or the opening process.
