I do not recommend buying this goal for a child! I bought this to cover our patio to keep our pup in but I have to say I had to make a lot of modifications to make it feel safe and I wouldn't feel safe using it to protect a child would use. I'll explain why and how I got it to work. HINGE BRACKET DID NOT FIT The first thing I noticed was that the hinges didn't fit on the hinge supports. One came up and the other has too much paint on it. I thought I could call the company and they would send me another loop. NOT CORRECT! I called them and they said to change all the gates. POOH! So I figured I could use a blade or file, cut some of the coating off and get it to work. I ended up using sharp scissors and was able to attach the loops. DO NOT CENTER THE PATTERN I then screwed on the hinge mounts. I used a template that I thought was great, but I didn't expect that I wouldn't have to pin it down. Because the gate is adjustable in width, one side of the gate will deviate by an inch. If you want them to be straight, make sure the hinges are slightly offset to the side (depending on which direction your gate will be pivoting). DO NOT USE THE SUPPLIED SCREWS! They were so unreliable they broke in half I could actually unscrew them with my screwdriver Imagine what would happen if I put them on and a kid pushes the gate in and it doesn't come out, I shudder to think ! is plastic and the screws go straight into the plastic insert and age cheap plastic breaks and one day when I go to close the gate it just won't lock if this gate lasts within a season we're lucky. INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT CLEAR Poorly written and many things are not mentioned, such as: B. Using the supplied wrench to tighten the hinges prior to installation. I would not recommend purchasing this gate if you understand that it may not last long, NOT child proof. You may need to modify the hardware and provide your own screws.
