Works well but less expensive alternatives

These are great for replacing the rope wicks I've already burned in my tiki torches. They last a lot longer and shine better than rope wicks, but I can't help but wonder if you can just buy rope or fiberglass or whatever and make the wicks a lot cheaper than they cost. Okay, so I googled (not sure why I didn't think of that sooner.) and turns out you can at least buy it on foot for a lot less. I think I know next summer!
