Review on LMRC LM19 Airplane Batteries Quadcopter by Jasmine Davis

Fun and unique drone for hobbyists. However, not suitable for children

I have been an active RC/drone/helicopter pilot since I was a child and have a lot of experience with flying. I recently introduced my son to a hobby that he is very passionate about, but at 6 years old he hasn't mastered fluid flight controls (including peeing in the toilet) so the idea of an inexpensive drone is easy to understand. The bow tie is very attractive. Most of the time I let him choose the one he wanted from the carefully selected group I introduced him to. He enthusiastically chose this airplane-like drone. Which, to be honest, I wanted because he seemed the coolest to me. First impressions are that it is well packaged and well detailed. It looks great, comes with all accessories, OK controller, extra battery and props. This is a unique quadcopter setup that uses an "under the rotor blades" approach. However, what is unusual is that the rotor blades are close together, which I think should give the plane a more attractive look. And believe it or not, it works and works well. However, it doesn't respond or recover as quickly as a standard quadcopter. Mainly due to the proximity of the 4 pillars and its proximity to the center. The above ground leaf design helps with this as it acts as a counter draft to deal with opposing forces but it really isn't that much and many flights have turned this thing upside down! Now I say emphatically that this is not the case. Great setup for a child as they can react quickly but by the time they get the hang of it they will be very badly destroyed. However, for adults or those experienced with drones, this is great indoor fun. it operates somewhere between a traditional helicopter and a quadcopter. You still have plenty of time and wiggle room to recover from excessive fixes and flight issues. Unlike a helicopter which crashes as soon as it gets out of control. The response time between entry and flight is great and my son watched me play for an hour and never lost interest. He just liked the fact that he looked like an airplane and not one of my old boring typical drones. Now rest assured I've smashed it many times trying to show off in front of the younger and it's holding up well. In all that time I've only broken one support, and it's easy to replace with others in the set. He fell about 75 feet into concrete and received only light scratches. All in all, this is a great alternative to a traditional drone and a great toy for those who have prior drone or helicopter experience. However, I can't advise if it's good for kids. If they had a blade guard I might say it's worth a try, but this thing pulls and a boy who doesn't know what he's doing aims right at your head and hits it. Well, let's just say it's not going to be a good day for whoever it crosses paths with.

Pros
  • Technical support
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
