Lightweight and provides adequate sun protection. Quality is what you expect from Outdoor Research. It's wider than usual, just what we were looking for. The back of the hat brim is longer to protect the neck. When the sun is at its worst for UV (10am to 4pm) the hat provides full shade to the face and neck. We still put sunscreen on his neck and face, but he's completely covered by his hat! It's easy to adjust the binding when the wind blows. He had no problem working as needed. I recommend it to anyone looking for a lightweight hat for their child. We have adult versions that work the same way (FYI).
