I don't know why the guys like to wear these rash guards in the pool but they do. Boys didn't wear shirts when I was a kid, but that was then, that is now. I bought this rash guard shirt for my 7 year old grandson to wear with his blue trunks for swimming lessons. I have to admit it suits him great. I wash it in cold water after each session and in about 15 washes the fabric hasn't deteriorated. These shirts are great because they have a UPF rating and can protect against UV rays. We don't get much sun most of the year (living in the Pacific Northwest), but if we do, this babe will look fine as long as it protects his pale skin that never sees the sun.
