This item worked great except it didn't pull out the driveshaft seal. I had to remove and pry off the steering knuckle housing. Such a disappointment. I also didn't drill a hole in the shaft and put the pin in whichever way they want. I simply installed my new gimbal seal, lubricated this tool with grease, installed the gimbal bearing, inserted the alignment tool into the motor coupler, slid the gimbal bearing round mandrel onto the shaft, and then simply tapped the bearing mandrel with a 1/2 extension. There was no way it could harm things. The alignment tool was very easy to rotate with two fingers due to the correct alignment. When I put the forward gear back in (volvo penta sx-m) he stood up without effort. I'm glad I didn't drill the hole like you should have because now I can use this tool on other boats - as long as the motor coupler is the same size.
