I'm all for the environment, but manufacturers went too far trying to comply with EPA IMO rules. Most modern gas cylinders are not vented and end up looking like soccer balls or otherwise contorting into all sorts of weird shapes. You can either fix this with a vented lid, or if you choose to use an existing lid, it contains a small white ball. a cap that vents the tank when you push it down. They release fumes into the environment so it's no longer EPA compliant, but it won't inflate like a soccer ball either. Another option is to buy the international version of this tank. They come with a secondary screw in the vent. You turn a quarter turn and hear the air escaping. The only downside to this is that if your gas tank is full, the gas will splatter during transport and cause a mess as it gets through the vent. If you block the vent, the tank can swell and you will have the same problem. I have the international version and just close the vent on the way to the boat ramp and then open it again before driving. If you have a long way to go, then better not fill the tank all the way up, but hack the vent. The only other option I know of is to get an aluminum tank with one of the activated carbon filters for aeration. . The good thing is that they usually allow units to be sent, so you can use a remote sensor. If you want a portable option, you'll have to stick to EPA-compliant lids. Click again on the little white ball in the cap and you will turn into gold or get another cap. The second option is to buy the international version. I have it and it works fine as long as you remember to keep the vent open. Much luck. The tank will be fine once you fix the cap issue.
