Incredibly luxurious but a bit demanding to care for

6 weeks postpartum I was very happy to have a new set of good quality bedding. I mean as much sleep as a parent can sleep with a newborn. When they arrived I was very surprised at the weight of the sheets and then the damage to the packaging. After immediately removing the sheets from the cloth bag, the material was already very soft and of high quality. I even called these sheets "sexy sheets" because they are so silky! Now I'm the kind of person who washes fabrics before first use, so the first wash is the first indication of how well they can hold up. When I pulled the sheets out of the dryer according to the care instructions, they were even softer and surprisingly didn't bunch up (we don't use fabric softener). I will say that these bamboo panels have one downside: they either need to be air dried or dried at a very low temperature due to the potential for shrinkage. I air dried them and had to do a few cycles despite the instructions that they dry quickly. Putting the sheet on top of the mattress was easy as they had very deep pockets to really make sure they didn't roll up when you slept. Now for that first night. It was magical. These are sheets for people who like to sleep in their birthday suit. Incredibly soft and silky on the skin and so seductive that you won't want to get up. If it weren't for the baby and newborn, I'd probably spend the whole day comfy in my bed and my taffeta sheets. The novelty of these sheets has not worn off and as long as they continue to maintain their integrity I don't think they will. These are by far my favorite sheets and I hope they get softer with every wash. *Update: second wash. As we have a child we had some saliva on the sheets and I was curious to see how the sheets would wash. There were a few fresh and dried saliva stains, and let's face it, nobody has the time to rip out the sheets every time a baby burps and then go through all the loose fabric for stains. Due to the nature of the fabric, I knew stains were possible, but I really wanted to see how challenging these sheets were to care for, so I didn't pre-treat them. Most of the stains are gone but a few stains are still visible. Since they are mostly air dried, I might find time to pretreat and wash them again. Most likely they will give another update.
