It's perfect! We have over 50 desk books and they fit easily on these shelves and still have space. I'm so glad we bought it, I was afraid it would be too small, but it's compact and holds a lot more than I would have thought based on the picture alone. I wanted to return it until I saw it assembled. It's a bit fiddly to assemble, but it's worth it. It's cute, mobile and durable. We removed the pegs from both sides after assembling it, our son is too small and we were afraid he would hit them because they are sticking out the side. Overall a good buy, a bit pricey but worth it
