I was watering water for the neighbor's cats who were hanging out by the back door of my patio but the water was completely frozen the other morning so I bought this heated bowl to keep it warm. I only use both bowls for water, so I can't say if it prevents food from freezing. I clean and refill my stainless steel bowls every day so they always have clean drinking water. They love it and I'm sure they will love it even more when winter really comes!
