Educational Napkin

My 8 year old daughter enjoys looking at this napkin and asking questions about the human body while eating. She tends to eat more slowly when she's looking at the mat, but she's easily distracted while eating and at least sees something educational. The napkin shows the main systems of the body: circulatory, muscular (front and back), skeletal, respiratory and digestive. The nervous system, lymphatic system, or reproductive system are not shown, and the bladder is absent for some reason. I can't remember which system it should be in - maybe the digestive system, but the kidneys are visible in the circulatory system, so maybe that's where they belong. The diagram shows a male but the genitals are absent. It also has charts for the five senses - hearing, smell, sight, touch and taste. I don't think the taste variant is relevant because it still shows zones, and I read recently that scientists have found taste buds for different tastes all over the tongue, not just in those zones. The back of the napkin is similar to the front. but without lettering so kids can test their knowledge with watercolor markers or washable colored pencils. We haven't tried it yet to see how well it cleans. There is also a detailed heart diagram with labels on the back. This mat is not suitable if the child has squeamish parents who find it difficult to talk about bodily functions while eating. Otherwise, this is a good start for educational conversations around the dinner table.
