Works right out of the box. A male to female USB cable (weird but necessary) is included for easy connection/use .Very, very VERY quiet, even at top speeds. 2 rotary switches (in the shape of a wheel) are used for on/off and variable speed. One for the top two fans and one for the bottom three fans. when you press. The 5 Fans on this unit keep my HP cool and comfortable! Bought it on Revain's daily deal. Happy with the purchase. It's larger than my laptop needs, about 1" on each side which is exactly what I expected and the blue LEDs on the Fans don't bother at all. Would recommend to anyone looking for a cooling pad.
