I was hoping to get a pair of matching ear tips ie headphones that simply rest on the outer ear and do not require penetrating/sealing the ear canal. Unfortunately, the drivers are tuned to require sealing in the ear canal, making them an awkward hybrid of in-ear headphones and traditional headphones ('out-ears', if you will) with most of the device actually on external headphones is dependent. but the small rod penetrates the canal just enough to close it. However, the shape and materials don't seal well, so I end up with an unnaturally flat sound without any bass or midrange sway. A slight pressure from my finger can cause the seal, making them sound surprisingly decent, but not what I would call an "audiophile" or enthusiast, and without this seal you can use $1 headphones too. Because of the hard plastic and very flat stem, they don't want to seal at all - it works, but it doesn't fit my ears and requires a lot of effort where I have to tug and wiggle my ears to open the canal wide enough to seal , and at this point I might as well use my real IEMs (in-ear headphones) with foam tips. Even if you can get a seal it's not great as the stem is small and made of hard plastic - the size comparison in the ears is strong. Real earmolds use flexible tips (e.g. foam, silicone) that adapt to each ear and its shape. Because every ear is unique, incompatible hard plastic means either a poor fit or discomfort, or both. In my case, they're comfortable enough, but I can't get a good, permanent seal for life, so the sound quality I get varies a lot. On a positive note if I can't get a print I can just throw on some Black Metal for the trve kvlt experience. On some positive sides, the build quality is better than expected - the microphone button feels good, the wire isn't unnecessarily thin, nothing has fallen off. And of course the price is $10. Bottom line, they're something of a cross between in-ear and in-ear ("outer ears") and I've found that they don't offer the same quality as in-ear headphones, the main factor being that That said, the design doesn't allow for a seal in the ear canal and isn't as comfortable as in-ear headphones, so I get the worst of both worlds. It doesn't work for my ears, but for $10 they're well made and hard to fault. If they fit your ears properly (or seal better), this might actually be a good buy.
