UPDATE: It's definitely real wool (but soft, not itchy)! Mine shrunk after washing and drying, so take a size up. I like these socks very much. I wear tons of wool knee-length socks. Some socks are very thick, so my shoes are never comfortable. Some socks are not warm enough. These socks are perfect. They are well constructed with reinforced areas like the calf and outsole. My favorite reinforcement is in the ankle area. The reinforced area gives my bony ankle a little extra cushioning, which is nice because I have boots that chafe my ankle. The material is so comfortable and warm. Another great thing about these socks is that these socks don't leave seams on the legs and feet like many of my reinforced socks do, making them more comfortable to wear throughout the day. I don't have super fat calves, but they are pretty beefy. I bought the medium ones and the next pair I buy will be the large ones as they have a little more room.
