Review on πŸ“± RADEX RD1212 BT Bluetooth Radiation Dosimeter by Chris Peck

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Updated: No longer recommended RD1212BT

Update September 2021: The RadexRead iOS app, which hasn't received any updates for over 4 years, no longer works - neither for recording your own Radex 1212BT measurements via Bluetooth, nor for viewing radiation reports from others on a map like in old times. The RD1212BT still works on its own, but the lack of useful applications seriously reduces its value for me. I can't recommend it more. I'm trolling Revain again, looking for a replacement device that actually connects to the mobile app and shares readings with other users. ========================= Initial Review: Great Radiation Detector for the Price -- Battery Portability and Bluetooth Connectivity Imperfect, but Handy! I'm no radioactivity expert and don't have access to other radiation detectors that could confirm readings, but I'm very impressed with the user-friendly interface and small form factor of this RADEX RD1212-BT. Perhaps the best feature is the downloadable mobile software, which: - connects to your own device via Bluetooth - displays your readings alongside those of others on a map within the app. My only disappointments: - The two AA batteries in the device don't last more than 3 days and plugging the 'old' 'mini USB' into a USB power source. does not save automatically installed batteries - you have to remember to remove them. Won't automatically connect to my iPhone if it was previously out of range These frustrations are really just convenience features that could be improved. Otherwise, the device has been working well for a few months, so I rely on it. Great device for the price!
