This DAC was designed to push the ES9038Q2M to its limits without the ESS hump. The Saber DAC has no competition other than the Matrix Audio X-Sabre Pro, but it costs $2,000. I happened to upgrade from a Topping D50 (not D50s) that also uses the ES9038Q2M. There is a big difference in sound quality compared to both. SGD1 is less bright compared to D50. SGD1 has cleaner and tighter bass compared to D50SGD1. SGD1 used ES9038PRO wanted SGD1 to remember which filter was last used after power off
