Review on Outdoor Daylight Equivalent Lumens Sensor by Ben Karlen

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Bright! But the sensor is a fatal flaw.

I want to love these lamps. But I'm sending the pears back because they just don't fit me. The description says "dusk until dawn" several times. But the words "on at night, off during the day" are more accurate. You are not joking. I installed two porch lightbulbs on the sides of the front door and two more lightbulbs on the sides of the garage. Like most people, I don't carry a light meter with me, so the lux reading doesn't matter. I found that it had to be almost completely dark outside before the lights came on. They turn on at night, not at dusk. As for the statement "turn off at dawn". No, they go out at the slightest dawn or in the glare of car headlights sweeping across the front of your home. Let me tell you how awesome it is to have two of these light bulbs hooked up on your porch and a car headlight. The headlights only "trigger" the "dawn" sensor to play "on-off ping-pong" after the headlight beam has moved on. Two lights are on. A light is off. The other light is off. Two lights are on. A light is off. The other light is off. Repeat for 20 seconds. On the plus side, these lights are really BRIGHT. So if you need to light up an area at night that is never in the path of headlights or other passing light sources, and it's normal for the lights to turn on and off at the "extremes" of darkness and light, and you don't Placing two bulbs closer than 10-12 feet apart then this might be a good choice. Otherwise, they're just too disappointing to use for country homes.

Pros
  • Excellent brightness 1200 lm
Cons
