Review on Peak Design SL-AS-3 Slide Camera Strap Ash: Premium Comfort for Photographers by Will Murphy

Best harness I've ever used

I've been thinking about getting a slide harness for a long time and finally got mine today. To be honest, my first impression was how original and unique the packaging was. No knife required to open the box! As soon as I took the strap out, I was impressed by its soft material (I bought the Peak Design Ash Slide Camera Strap SL-AS-3). The clamps work as advertised. They are quick and easy to attach/remove. The length of the strap is easily adjustable. It's important to note that it's very comfortable to wear as a sling with the Nikon d7500 and an 18-140mm lens attached. The "hard" side of the strap keeps the camera from slipping, and when the smooth side is down, the camera can be easily lifted to take pictures. I used a fake Black Rapid but I don't like unscrewing the strap to mount the camera on a tripod. Slide allows me to keep my arca plate attached to the camera. To wear it as a strap, it is best to attach the strap to the Arca plate on the bottom of the camera and to the right strap loop. With this rotation, the lens remains pointed downwards, which is very convenient. You attach the clip to the bottom of the camera by sliding it over the Arca plate's screw so that it protrudes from under the side of the plate. This leaves very little room to attach a strap. The zipper is a bit awkward. I will have the capture plate tomorrow and it includes an Arca Peak Design compatible plate which should make attaching the strap to the bottom of the camera much easier. Overall, I highly recommend this strap. . Too bad I didn't buy it sooner. I think it's worth the price.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • boring packaging
