Cute, comfortable night light

I bought this as a night light for a 4 year old child. It's cute, she loves it and it's beautiful colors (except red - when she first saw that color she said "it looks crazy" and it looks a little demonic when it's on red). I have a major complaint and it is similar to the concerns expressed by others. It's very bright at max brightness level. I originally placed it on a dresser but it threw too much light so I now place it on dark carpeting next to the tapestry to minimize reflections. If you dim the lights (with the remote), the illuminance is appropriate for night time, except when white is on (I'm assuming all the LEDs are on at the same time, so white appears brighter than other colors). The problem is that any change you make to the light resets the brightness level to the maximum. So if you go from blue to green, for example, you'll have to hit the dim button a few times to get it back down to the right level for sleep. Also, the color changing modes don't let you dim the lights, period - they only work at the brightest setting and can't be changed, so they're useless for night time (IMHO). I would also prefer that the light can be switched on with the remote control - this is not possible. You have to turn it on by touch. You can turn it off with the remote control and use all other functions, but the first turning on has to be a touch. it lights up all the time, which I really like because it makes it (quietly) visible in the dark even when it's off. Don't know about the battery life - we always keep it plugged into a USB charger. Sometimes a child plays with it, but mostly we use it as a lamp. We almost never use the squeeze feature, which lets you click on a light to activate/change it, but it doesn't seem to work all that reliably with my limited interactions. However, after the initial excitement has subsided, we now set the light. once before bed and don't tamper with it after, and it works great for that purpose. I give my kid the remote before bed, but most of the time she doesn't touch it.
