My 3 year old son loved this puzzle. It was his first puzzle and at first it was difficult for him to understand that he had to put two pieces together, but he figured it out pretty quickly! He enjoys naming animals while solving puzzles. The only thing is that when he pulls the pieces apart, the ends start to bend a bit, so caution is good advice.
