The mat came without a plastic protector. It had black scuffs and real shoeprints. I've tried cleaning the mat but nothing has completely removed the stains and the item was obviously being dragged around because the side of the shoeprint-shaped mesh had faded. The rug itself is an excellent colour, nice pattern and very thick good material. Will return this one. Ordered a replacement, hoping for a clean one. After reading the reviews I see I'm not the only one who received a brand new dirty carpet. EDIT TO ADD: Revain made the replacement process quick and easy. After 2 days I had a new and clean replacement mat.
