First of all, this test is not about "smart" functions. I have Smart Jacks for all my Christmas stuff that I've used with Alexa for years, so I plug all my lights into them. The button on the USB cable gives you more mode selection than the remote control. I don't use the app as the remote and power cord controls are enough for me. These lights can change from super bright to soft with at least 8 light modes. Solid colors, all white, flashing, pulsing, "breathing" whatever. There is a small guide to GOTMG (Get Out The Magnifying Glass), but experimenting with the remote control by pointing it at the USB module is much easier. However, you need a manual if you want to use the app and the smart functions. All in all a good string of lights. Copper wires are strong and easy to bend, so they are very easy to install. You can use them outdoors if you can protect your USB device from water (grass sheeting and rubber bands!). They're more expensive than regular cheap 110v bulbs, but they're much more useful and use less electricity. I hope this review was helpful. Merry Christmas!
