Review on MasTrack- OBD Car Tracker Burner Includes Free Live GPS Tracking With NO Monthly Fees… by Jose Schweigert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Simple, works, reasonable costs

The usual trio. Completely plug-n-play. Installation is instant (literally). I recommend that you purchase a right-angle OBD extension cable about 3 feet long that allows you to bundle both the MasTrack and the cable together so they're out of the way, rather than sticking out of the OBD port under the dash. I first plugged it in until the time I looked at the live position data on the map was about 10 minutes. That includes the time it took me to sign up for an account on their website, activate the device, and sign up for a monitoring plan. The interface on the site is a bit clunky (as others have pointed out), but if you're a bit tech-savvy and used to things like this, you won't have any trouble navigating it. The lack of a dedicated mobile app is why 4 stars instead of 5. You can get by with a mobile browser and I don't mind, but really. There's just no excuse for not having an app. One more thing, because it's portable (strength), it's easy to remove (weak point, depending on why you're using it). You'll know if that happens or if it's moved to another vehicle, but there's little consolation if your tracking just winks because the device wasn't connected. This is why I recommended using an extension cord to keep it away from the OBD port. You can buy commercially available plastic security loops/seals to wrap around and track when/if this happens, although it would be nice if you remembered to make a hole in the clam shell itself to make this easier. Bottom line, I wanted something that was plug and play, quick and easy, and not very expensive. That's it. Long term reliability? No idea. The time will show. But my first impression is very positive, enough for me to come back to appreciate it.

Pros
  • No contracts, no recurring payments, no other fees. A block of time with unlimited data and tracking service preinstalled from the date of purchase to the fixed end date of the service.
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged
