Terrible chemical smell that I can't get rid of

In general the hangers look exactly like the pictures. They appear to be durable, but there's a horrible chemical smell that I can't get rid of. I've been leaving them unattended for almost 2 months now and they still smell. I've always used velvet hangers and this is the first time I've encountered a problem. Very disappointed and concerned about using them to hang baby clothes. If I hadn't thrown away the packaging I would have sent it back already :(
