Nest knows CCTV best

I have three main complaints about most CCTV cameras. First, it is easy for hackers to target them. Manufacturers are too busy developing new models to fix old ones. Nest is a Google company. Google is very good with security. Of course, you should protect your Google account with a strong password and preferably two-factor authentication. If someone hacks into your Google account, they can turn off the camera. Or they can turn it on, look around your house and even talk to the nanny. It would absolutely piss off any teenager I know, and rightly so. My second complaint is that the cameras work well until a power outage or glitch causes the camera's Wi-Fi to drop. After that, they won't work until you turn off the camera to restart it. The Nest Camera is great hardware and very reliable. After the crash, the Nest camera reconnects to Wi-Fi with no problems. It also sends a notification to let you know when the camera is out of Wi-Fi. My third complaint is that most cameras are stupid. I had a camera that would send out dozens of notifications a day because the answering machine light was blinking. Nest detects intruders on the server, not the camera. Nest Aware is an option (for a monthly fee) that adds intelligent intruder detection. Sound becomes Man Talking, Dog Belling, and All Other Sounds. "Movement" becomes "People" and "All other movements". "People" detection works very well. When a person enters the room, the Nest servers trigger a person event. As long as the person remains in the room, no more events with people will take place. If a person leaves the room and re-enters a few seconds later, Nest triggers the other person's event. Nest Aware also records videos and allows you to create video clips. Events don't always trigger notifications. It drove me crazy I waved my hands in front of the camera and didn't get any notifications. The first 3 Nest support people I spoke to didn't know why. Once a notification has been sent, no further notifications will be sent until the 10-15 minute "cooldown" period has elapsed. If a second event is detected midway through the clutch, the timer will restart. During the entire cooling period, no events are allowed to take place before Nest sends another notification. You can also watch a video and see events being announced but no notifications coming (like mine). If someone watches the video, they don't need notifications. So says Nest. Notifications can be sent as push notifications to your smartphone and/or to your email. Email notifications come with an attached image. When other family members install the Nest app on their phone, they can control the camera and receive notifications through their Google Account. I love the privacy Nest offers. A green light that cannot be turned off indicates that the camera is sending video to the server. Here are some things I don't like about Nest. Because intrusion detection is done on the server, Nest continuously sends video when the camera is on. You can set "Bandwidth/Quality" to low, medium or high. However, if your internet service has limited bandwidth or data limits, Nest may not be for you. The "images" attached to email notifications are actually frames from the compressed video. Even with the video quality set to "High", there isn't much detail on the subject's face. If you don't use the monthly service, the intrusion detection is stupid. You're not going to get dozens of notifications from a blinking lightbulb every day. However, you will be notified every time the timer turns on the light. Finally, the Nest support staff are friendly and willing to help with the usual setup options. But they don't know exactly how Nest works. (Hence this long review.) Here's a small bug that Google might end up fixing. The Nest app is installed on my Android phone. When I turn on Do Not Disturb, I don't hear a sound when I get a notification. The Do Not Disturb feature prevents Nest from sending push notifications. If I'm wrong please let me know in the comments as I would love to have this feature. Nest is a great product. In my opinion, most of the negative reviews are unjustified. Many of its important features are not appreciated. Buy a Nest and turn it on. He will do what you want. But don't try to understand why he does what he does. It will drive you crazy
