You do NOT have to use the cellular function. I'm starting my review with this because that was the main question I had and I couldn't easily find the answer. Since I don't know much about Apple Watches anymore, I had one of the first ones when it came out and no. One had them and I haven't paid much attention to them since doing a little research and asking some clients at work about them. I still didn't know if I wanted cellular or not, mostly because I didn't want to pay for another device. I figured I'd grab a capable one and see what happens, hoping I wouldn't have to use the cellular feature, but I knew I had it if I wanted it in the future. I'm happy to report that you do NOT need to set up cellular on this watch to fully enjoy it. I can take calls, reply to messages, and turn on Find Friends without a cellular connection. My phone is usually pretty close by, I just can't have it handy at work and I have young children so I like to see who's been calling or texting if there's an emergency and I'm happy to say that I can use my watch for a large scope.
