Review on SIMPLIHOME Artisan Contemporary Tempered Adjustable by Sarah Gonia

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Review revised - not satisfied

Initially I was very happy with this order and gave it 4 stars. That was with the first two devices I bought. I quickly bought 2 more and had nothing but problems. One came with a broken top. I contacted SimpliHome and they were friendly and quick but couldn't help me with a replacement top as for some reason they were out of stock and told me to return them or replace them with Revain. The Revain was excellent and the replacement should be here in a few days. However this morning I discovered a new crack or split in the top of ANOTHER unit which I have not returned but was in the same order. This seems to be happening where the wood is being laminated together to form the top and either the glue has come loose or there has been shrinkage or expansion? I don't know, but the hairline is about 6 inches at the top. The device did nothing, just sat motionless, not being used. Packing and returning a unit was a hassle. Now do I have to send one back? What a VERY effort. Husband doesn't want trouble. However, I spent over $1200 to get four of these and I want this fixed. I dont know what to think. I'm waiting for SimpliHome to contact me again with a new issue. Only 6 days have passed since the block was assembled, and today a microcrack appeared. I gave him 2 stars. I originally gave it a 4. Read the positives below and there are positives and that is why it gets 2 stars instead of 1. However, out of 4 cabinets I had 2 damaged or broken. That's a 50% dropout rate. I have yet to decide if I need to return this block. Of course, there's an original replacement that should be arriving soon to replace the first damaged case of the two. Let's see what happens, or will there be problems? Despite all this, even if everything worked out in the end, taking the cabinets apart and repacking them was a hassle. Below are the positive reviews of the first two units. I ordered 2 sets of cabinets (4 total) about 1 week apart. Earlier - when I was happy - I wrote: First I do the assembly. It was easy for us. I'm over 65. First office 90 minutes. Second room 30 mins. We assembled ready to build kitchen cabinets years ago so this helped. That aside, I'd say that once you know the basics, you can probably pull it off. We used an electric drill with a screwdriver bit. However, a screwdriver along with the included wrench will suffice. We know how to turn straight screws. Try to do it. I really don't know why people had such issues in some of the lower rated reviews. I read that they broke the equipment. I would assume user error, but everyone's circumstances can be different. If you're unfamiliar with the cam, this is a mechanism that simply makes a quarter turn to lock the included screws. If someone tries to screw it up a few times, I see the problem. but the camera is not designed for such an installation. Also the screws holding the cam we thought, maybe some people screwed them in too tight? Just stop where it indicates it should be flush with the tree and you'll be fine. We found the directions easy and very clear. Of course, someone could have a sticker accidentally placed on their device. However, we did not have such difficulties. Finally, when assembling it, EVERYONE says they have problems with the doors. We're assuming the difference in suspension is maybe 1/8 inch, and we're assuming this is due to the depth of the hinge pre-installed on the door itself. The depth of the hinges matters when the doors are square. We decided not to cheat the hinge and to accept a small deviation. We didn't want to accidentally mess things up. People who have major problems installing doors may wonder if they have twisted or misaligned other parts of the closet. If you go beyond that, you will run into problems. Again, I expect an assembler error so as not to offend anyone, because of course there may be a problem with a rogue door, but not our experience. If you look closely at my photos you will see that I have changed the grips. One closet had a difference of 1/8 inch and the other about 1/16, which is due to the door hanging. We figured if you're not looking for it, you won't notice it. Please note that before installing the doors, be sure to attach the back panel. We put the square in the door and watched the back panel attach. We bought 2 blocks and installed the door while rotating the block into the 2nd block. I don't know if it helped, but we think it helped. Be sure to install only one screw in the center of each hinge before installing the other screws. In general, we were satisfied with the doors. Now for what I would like people to tell me in the reviews. Internal dimensions are reported to vary widely. The actual shelf is about 10.75 deep and 11.75 wide. However, as they say, there is more useful room than for depth. The distance between the edge of the shelf and the actual door is approximately 1.25 inches. I took pictures with plates. These panels are 10.5 inches. I took a picture with the panel to the end and then took a picture of the panel about half an inch from the back wall. I think an 11" platter will do, and maybe an 11.5" platter with the door closed. Note. I read that someone had problems with the shelves. If you do not fully adjust the shelf support pins, your shelf will not mount properly. We installed the pin correctly. The shelf is stable. The overall impression is great in my opinion. I had a VERY small paint defect on my second device in 2 places, but I didn't notice it. When people say they're "garbage," that doesn't apply to us. The success of your installation largely depends on this. It also depends on the person. Some people think $300 is a lot of money. Agree, it's not cheap. However, I believe they are much better than MDF. Pine is soft. Yes. But you probably won't get a hardwood for this price. Occasionally you see a wave in the forest, but again you don't notice it. If you are used to high-quality furniture, you can choose them separately. But let's be serious. Why did you buy online in the first place? I'll tell you why You've been to a furniture store and all the really good stuff is being ordered for months due to Covid and the production. Even some cheaper furniture can last a few months. And it was done cheaply and probably expensively. I looked for wardrobes in the home decoration supermarket. Prices ranged from $150 to $300. Rough Wood. We're sorry. Walk down her aisle and look for scratches exposing the MDF, or look for moldings or drawers that won't close. These cabinets are MUCH better and stronger. If you want high end furniture, do as I did. Buy them thinking they will be temporary. I really hope they look good for a few more years. Nobody talks about NC paint. I initially had no or minimal odor, but mine are white and spotless. I have asthma but no problem with the smell. FYI Nitrocomposition Varnish may turn yellow on white or light colored woods. Think old guitars. Nobody mentions it. I plan to keep mine out of the sun and hope it takes a few years for it to yellow. Didn't stop me from buying. I just painted my house and need some furniture. I ended up ordering 2 more for a total of $4,300, a bit pricey but there are a few from SimpliHome on Revain ranging from $220 to $250 for different styles and colors like Bedford or Redmond. I think that would be the best price for her in an ideal world. If I hear just one more person say you get what you pay for when this is true, I go insane. If you can afford a higher level, look for it. If you think this is too much, buy MDF from a big store. But $220 to $250 for them is very reasonable in today's furniture environment, IMO. I paid $300 because I just wanted this style and color.
