We tried many shoes for my 93 year old mother. She suffers from severe leg edema, causing the ball of her foot to swell. The only shoes she has worn for years are large men's slippers. The Mary Jane style shoe features a large cut-out at the instep with a crossover strap. Most Mary Jane extra wide shoes have a short strap that cannot go through her instep. This shoe has a longer strap and works great. The upper is made of soft, satin-like sponge material. She loves these shoes, especially because they are the first shoes she can wear comfortably.
