Moderately effective for less intelligent cats

We adopted three stray cats last year and while they are good with kitty litter they are not very good with scratching posts and pads. They mainly focused on the ends of my new sofa. I've tried various totally useless tactics like redirecting her to the scratching post, covering the cat's claws, and even feeling guilty. None of this worked so I ordered these pieces of plastic for the ends of the sofa. They're easy to install, but the pins are cheap and two of the heads broke off when screwing them in. The company added extra fixtures which was nice. The pins screw into the fabric and upholstery of your sofa. I'm still weighing that I made 12 intentional holes in the couch and not the ones the cats scratched. Cats are prevented from scratching this area of the couch and aren't smart enough to realize that they can move two inches and continue on their path of destruction. I hope they don't notice that too quickly. In the meantime, I weigh the benefits of living with an intact plastic couch versus an expensive cat toy. The only thing that really worries me about this product is 1) the holes I poke in the fabric with needles and 2) whether my cats will chew on the needles and cause a big problem if they eat them or we on them to step. . You managed to chew 6 buttons off a tufted chair so this is a real possibility. Unless your cats are very smart, this will likely work for you.
