I originally bought this to organize my small closet but it just didn't work. I decided to put it in my dressing room and use it to organize my hobby items. The height is fixed but the shelves are adjustable. It's 16 inches tall but I've included a picture so you can estimate the space between the shelves so you can try and see if you like it. to buy. It's durable, which is good, and it stands up with no problems. The shelves snap into place very well, so that's not a problem either. If you want to put something on top that can slip through the vents, you can buy a shelf liner at a dollar store and cut it to size.
