What I love about this scratching post is that it's a sturdy wedge shaped cardboard scratching post. Nothing fancy, just something for cats who like to have a sloping surface to grab onto with their claws. It was budget and I decided to buy it on a whim. Upon arrival I opened the bag and placed it between two cat climbers as this is a typical meeting place and a good way to introduce a cat to something new is to place it between the items it is familiar with is. Adding catnip wouldn't hurt either ;) Since there were already 4 cats standing around out of curiosity, I poured the supplied bag of catnip over the wedge. This immediately caused my eldest (16.5 years old) to frantically scratch at the scratch. They rolled, scratched, sniffed and played with each other. It was a good time. I would say that introducing this theme has been the most beneficial, but they are moving towards it. Throughout the house we have scratching surfaces of different heights, made of different materials and in different places. I would say if you don't have an angled scraper and want to try it then this is a good option. If you have a bare bottom, I recommend laying it on something so it doesn't slip. For me he is sandwiched between two climbers. Since it's an extra scratch in my arsenal, I can put it in a big fun catnip toy box for them to go crazy and get a good scratch in the process.
