All in all a great purchase

I bought this to help with our 38ft RV. So far this has been hit or miss. First hits: The screen is gorgeous. The touch screen works perfectly. Colors are bright and easy to customize for a distraction-free night ride. Oral instructions are pleasant and helpful. And the voice isn't the traditional robot voice that others have. It has many options that I like. You can choose which data points you see on the screen. My favorite story is about what will happen on the next exit. Missing: This thing's automatic connection to your phone (for data usage, updates, etc.) isn't smooth. You need to open the Garmin Drive app on your phone. Sometimes it connects, sometimes not. The app keeps asking me to update the device's firmware, but when I get in the truck and turn on the app, it doesn't give any helpful hints on how to do it (hint, you have to do it on the device). The maps aren't great either. I've done two camping trips so far. Once he sent me onto a road that went under a bridge, but when the road led to that bridge, he wanted me to turn right as if I were on the bridge itself. I had no path to go. A few more times I had to drive down a road that wasn't RV friendly (despite the fact that I had the appropriate choice) and was told to turn onto roads that were clearly private and had completely large gates. block the road. I had to find suitable places to come back, which isn't much fun when towing. Years ago I wouldn't have blamed GPS for not knowing about road closures. But now that other phone-based GPS navigators have this incredibly useful feature, there's no excuse not to talk about it here. Especially when the phone and device are synced. I can see in real time, wherever I am, why you are forcing me to use a specific traffic control device to have this feature. The feeling of extorting money for an already expensive device. All in all, this device is worth buying. The issues I'm having won't stop me from buying again. Just remember that you can also leave Waze or another GPS running in the background in case you catch a wrong turn or a roadblock. I've had both issues on 100% of my two trips so far.
