Review on πŸ”“ Fastener 014973264895 Core Door Anchor - An Elusive Find Made Easy by Cory Mosley

Very difficult to assemble without special tools. Definitely NOT user friendly.

When I first used this type of mount it was very easy to install with a single screwdriver. Now with the production in China they have a mess. The flange under the screw head has metal tips that dig into the wood surface and prevent the knot from turning when tightened. The flange is now so soft steel that the tips collapse with very little pressure - useless. On the other hand, the steel used in the body of the device is so stiff that it is not possible to try to compress the body and spread the sides to grab the underside of the plate by tightening the screw. In order to use them for their intended purpose in a hollow door, I first had to flex and bend the sides of the trunk several times to soften the steel enough to install them. It seems to me that the manufacturer has changed the specifications of the steels used in the flange and barrel. The special tool they sell can make installing the brackets easier. The tool is overpriced and overly specialized for just a few fasteners in my opinion.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Infinitely slow
