I've been using another "normal" razor from Merkur for a few years. It's a great razor, but unless I'm using very sharp blades like Feathers, I have to do multiple passes and apply quite a bit of pressure. With this Merkur angle razor I need very little pressure. Now I can use my old stash of derby blades for a close shave. Of course I prefer Feathers to Derby, but I wanted to try this new slope with my not-so-sharp Derby blades. Wow I love this razor. Still not a Derby fan but once they run out I'll be ordering more feathers. If you are new to shaving, grab this safety razor and practice with the derby blades first. Then, once you've mastered YOUR OWN way of shaving, move on to Feathers. I like everything that works, which is convenient, and I'd rather buy quality than what others think. There are many people who advise men to use special oils, soaps, pre-conditioners, post-conditioners and so on. Sure, some of these products are great, but really, if you can wash your face thoroughly, get a good lather (I'm currently using Walmart brand shaving cream), and shave slowly, you should be fine. There is a lot of talk about shaving on the internet. I want a shave that is easy, affordable, and consistent every time, without spending more time in the bathroom than my wife. After all, I don't use a mirror. I shave in the shower. I've learned to shave by the feel of a blade on my face and I have a shaving pattern that suits me. No one but me is an expert on me.
